Introduction:
Karnataka Public Schools have been started from the year 2018-19 to provide quality education from pre-primary to class 12 with the administrative, academic and functional integration of existing schools, in line with the policy of “Every child should be in school and learn well”. Kannada and English medium of instruction have been adopted in these schools.
Vision:
The aim is to transform these schools into ‘Centres of Excellence’ by making them student-centred, community-oriented and community-supported schools that provide quality education.
Objectives :
- To Provide the quality Education for children’s from LKG to PUC.
- To increase the enrollment and reduce the dropouts.
- The department aims to provide a good learning environment with the infrastructure and dedicated teachers who are trained to follow active teaching methods and implement technology-assisted learning methods, and good art and science laboratories and library facilities.
- The department advocates for developing a reliable system for evaluating learning outcomes and preparing plans for remedial teaching to support classroom processes in these schools.
A total of 308 Karnataka Public Schools are functioning in the year 2024-25. A total of 282932 students from pre-primary to pre-university classes are studying in Karnataka Public Schools. The list of GO’s of starting KPS schools mentioned in below table:

Details of the grant released for infrastructure and learning materials to KPS schools:
- ECCE:
The main objective of KPS schools is to provide good quality education from pre-primary classes to class 12. In this context, many facilities are being provided for pre-primary classes.
a) Child friendly furnitures: Children of 4 to 6 years study in pre-primary classes. Child friendly furniture is provided to them so that they can sit safely.
b) Outdoor play materials: Materials such as swings, sliding rocks etc. are provided to facilitate the children of pre-primary classes to play outside the classroom.
c) Teaching and learning materials: (TLM) Teaching and learning materials required for conducting learning activities are provided to the students.
2. ICT – Smart Class
Selected KPS schools have been provided with LED displays and UPS-1KV equipment to develop the capacity of teachers and students to use technology in school teaching and learning.
3. Computer Lab
KPS schools have been provided with laptops, projectors, and printer/scanner equipment to build the capacity of teachers and students to use technology in school teaching and learning.
4. Science Kit & Mathematics Kit
Grants have been provided to purchase equipment needed to conduct math and science activities in the classroom.
5. LIBRARY:
The school headmasters, as per the approval of the school SDMC, shall purchase the required books for the library from the library grant released to their schools and keep a record in the library stock book. They shall distribute books to the children and inform them to inculcate the habit of reading in them.
6. INCERNATORS:
To emphasize girls' education, grants have been released to schools to provide menstrual napkins for girls aged 6 to 16 years to facilitate their monthly menstrual cycle and prioritize their health and hygiene, and to dispose of them safely.
7. Vocational Education
Vocational education is being provided under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to equip students from grades 9 to 12 studying in high school and undergraduate schools with various job skills. In addition, Vocational Education Cell, Project Innovation, and Skill Hub Initiatives programs are being conducted.
8. Career Guidance Cell
The main function of the Career Guidance Cell is to facilitate school students to integrate vocational education with their formal education and to help high school students to prepare their future educational and career plans and to help them choose interesting areas of their career plans and make them their profession. Considering that by establishing this, a good job of providing career guidance to students can be achieved, a Career Guidance Unit should be established in every school.
9.Supplementary Teaching:
Primary and Secondary Section: To appoint subject-based English, Science and Mathematics guest teachers for Primary and Secondary Sections on outsourced basis for a period of 10 months at a monthly rate of Rs. 3000/-.
- To teach English grammar and difficult lessons.
- To solve difficult experiments and problems in Science.
- To solve difficult problems in Mathematics. To create interest in children in fun Mathematics and to prepare students for Navodaya, Adarsh Vidyalaya, Murarji Shale, NNMS & NTSE entrance examinations.
