Introduction

“School Safety” has been defined as creating safe environment for children, starting from their homes to their schools and back. This includes safety from any kind of abuse, violence, psycho-social issue, disaster: natural and manmade, fire, transportation. Emotional safety is especially important because it is often difficult for teachers and parents to detecte motional problems and difficulties in children. Bullying can cause victimized students to suffer from lower self-esteem and daily stress about their well-being. Children require a healthy and supportive environment to grow and develop. Children of our country have constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights to live with dignity and to have access to education in an environment that is safe, protective and conducive to growth and development. Everyone in school has a role to play in ensuring good safety, healthy and secure environment within schools, Therefore, protecting children from such disasters and preventing them from being exposed to any hazards by providing educational facilities in schools and creating awareness about this is one of the prime concerns of the Education Department.

In this context, the State Government has started a comprehensive school safety CSS (CSS) in collaboration with the Department of Education and UNICEF from 2023 with the aim of taking more care of children during disasters and dangers. Capacity development programs have been started in the State ,district, taluk, and school levels.

Further, first phase of awareness raising workshop was organized in collaboration with UNICEF at the State level from 05.08.2024 to 07.08.2024 in Bengaluru, as a part of the continuation, a two-day refresher training was conducted from 26.11.2024 to 27.11.2024 at the Regional Institute of Co-operative Management. The committee, programs have been organized at the district, cluster and school levels as per the instructions given by the SSK State Office to form a committee and to carry out the responsibilities. A detailed circular containing the calendar of programs to be conduct at the school level has been sent.
