ICT has revolutionized various sectors and education is no exception. The integration of digital initiatives has transformed the learning landscape, offering unprecedented opportunities for personalized learning, enhanced accessibility, and improve educational outcome. The ICT implementation in school education use free and open technologies, including FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) and OER (Open Educational Resources). In lower primary sections,  a teacher is expected to help the child to make use of ICT, in the case of higher primary and high schools, it is envisaged that students would be using the lab, along with the teachers.

Use of LCD, Projectors, Slides Smart class rooms can be used to encourage teaching learning process and makes the classroom more interesting attractive and effective. Students can learn from anywhere and anytime with the help of mobile applications. Digital Learning increases the quality of education. The focus of activity Digital Initiatives is to provide a support system for learning and gaining of computer literacy.

This component covers classes  I to XII, where flexibility to procure hardware such as tablets, laptops, notebooks, integrated teaching learning devices and open source operating system as well as Hardware, Software, training and resource support is provided.

Considering this, Karnataka has developed the ICT programme and integrated all technology based programmes under the umbrella of Technology Assisted Learning Programme (TALP).  TALP comprises of EDUSAT, Computer Assisted Learning Centres under SSA, Radio programmes and IT@Schools in Karnataka.

The Scheme to procure hardware was launched in December, 2004 to provide opportunities to secondary stage students to mainly build their capacity on ICT skills and make them learn through computer aided learning process. The Scheme is a major catalyst to bridge the digital divide amongst students of various socio-economic and other geographical barriers.
