Background

A Committee of Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), the highest deliberative body in secondary education on “Universalization of Secondary Education”, in its report submitted in June 2005, had recommended and suggested that the basic facilities and curriculum of central schools should be adopted everywhere based on norms of Kendriya Vidyalayas.

According to the Planning Commission, a model school should be a model for other schools within the scope of its working area if it has the basic facilities required in the central school model such as, a specific teacher-student ratio, computers, information technology, curriculum and educational environment conducive to the intellectual development of students.
